Analysis of design
Some elements and principles of design that I have incorporated into the design. The bolded headings are the main elements/principles that I focused on while designing.
Colour

The colour scheme of this infographic is inspired by the colours of parrots and more specifically the macaw. (Go to 'Inspiration' subpage for my inspirations)

-
Complementary colours - Red/Green; Blue/Yellow
-
Analogous colours - Yellow/Green/Blue
I wanted to colours to be bright to attract people's eyes and to portray a fun and light hearted image for the poster, hopefully making the infographic more joyful to read.
Font

The font that I chose to use for majority of the infographic was a San Serif, just like the font that is being used here. As the infographic can get a little wordy, I thought San Serif fonts would be make it easier on the eye and to read.

I chose a Serif font as the heading of the poster to differentiate from the main content of the poster, bringing more emphasis to the heading. This also adds a little variety to the design.
Hierarchy & Alignment

Hierarchy
Titles, subtitles, body paragraphs and important information are differentiated by:
-
Weight
-
Colour
-
Alignment
-
Size
Creating a heirachy in the text differentiates the importance of the information and makes it easier for readers to sieve out information from the wordy infographic.

Alignment
I also ensured that there was a consistency in alignment in my design to organize and the elements and make the infographic easier for readers to browse through. Alignment also makes the overall design look polished and professional.
Rotation & Overlapping
Rotation
Rotation was suggested by Ms. Tia, my resource person, as a way to explore and step out of my comfort zone. Rotation would also complement the "fun" and "playful" themes of the poster.
Overlapping
Overlapping can be seen with the main colour blocks stacked on top of each other. Overlapping was one of the suggestions given by Ms. Tia on being more daring to try new things when designing. Initially, I was hesitant about how to overlap the elements in the design as I was afraid that there wouldn't be enough space for the content. However, I quickly realized that I was wrong after experimenting a few different ways to overlap the elements.
Shapes
The shapes used in the infographic are mostly rounded so that it is less harsh on the eye and look less rigid.
Value
I explored changing the Opacity of the main colour blocks to create different values of the colour as well as to give the clustered design a feeling of having "more negative space". An opaque colour block would feel very heavy as seen in the draft as there is not much negative space.

Colour heading font are darker values of the main colour block to create harmony and unity for the different topics.
Movement
I intentionally placed the 4 main blocks in staggered positions to lead the viewer's eyes in the direction of: Housing → Nutrition → Health → 6 common signs of illness. Instead of aligning the main blocks horizontally like I did in the earlier drafts, staggering it creates a flow and direction in the design. I think adding movement really helped added to the fun and playfulness of the design that I was going for.
