Brochure VS Poster/infographic

Printing considerations

Brochure VS Poster/Infographic

Brochure
Poster/Infographic
  • Viewers can take a physical copy home

Pros
  • Only have to print one per location

  • Can be put up for a long time for many people to see

  • Able to glance all information quickly

Cons
  • Difficult to gauge how many to print

  • May not be able to reach as many people if all the brochures have been taken

  • Many printing companies require to print in bulk (e.g. 50, 100 qty)

  • Not many people may visit bird shops during this Covid period

  • Size constraints

  • Not many people may visit bird shops during this Covid period

Bleeding

I plan to use a 3mm bleed to ensure that the colour extends to the edge of the print after trimming.

Size of paper

Printing considerations

A3 size (297 x 420 mm)
I initially wanted to print in A2 but after some thinking, I realized that shop owners may not allow or have the space to put up such a big poster. Though A2 meant that I could put in more information than A3, A3 would be the safest option to print and distribute.

Colour

CMYK.

RGB is for digital websites/software etc. If done in RGB (which is more vibrant), print may be duller than expected

Vector images

Using vector images ensures the quality and sharpness of the illustration or text will not be lost when scaling.

Paper

Normal – waterproof/ nonglossy

  • This is to minimize any glaring or reflections when reading the poster in sunny or under bright lightings.

Font size

9 points.
Though the optimal body text sized is 10-12 points. based on what I’ve printed in the print test, it is the size where the words were still legible but small enough to fit more information. If the font is any smaller, words on the poster would be extremely difficult to read.

Illustrations to add

  • Pellets

  • Vegetable and fruits

  • Water droplet

  • Bird toys

  • Bells

  • Perches

    • Mineral perch

    • Wooden perch

  • Food and water bowls (stainless steel)

  • Servette

  • Newspaper

  • Bird cage

  • Shower

  • Shallow transparent bowl of water with bird standing in it

  • Leaves with water dripping down

  • Spray bottle with mist sprayed

Test print

Doing a test print before sending the softcopy to the printing services allows me to check for any sizing or layout issues on an actual A3 size paper and save myself time and money from any mistakes in the final poster printing.
